Old Crucifix
CHF78.50
Antique Crucifix with a skull placed under the cross of Christ made of porcelain and wood.
This is a beautiful Crucifix, very common in churches during the second half of the 20th century. It is now becoming increasingly rare to find.
This model has also been quite controversial, simply because a skull is placed at the feet of Christ. The skull in Christian symbolism is an allusion to the name Golgotha, which means place of the skull.
The skull under the cross of Christ is, according to legend, the skull of Adam, who was buried at the place where Christ was later crucified. The splitting of the rocks at the death of Christ would have exposed Adam's skull. The skull is used as a symbol of death, when one does not want to represent it through a skeleton, then it is accompanied by two skulls placed in a cross.
